FOOD RECOVERY PROGRAM
Rescuing Food, Nourishing Communities
Welcome to the Food Recovery program by the Mid Richmond Neighbourhood Centre (MRNC), a vital initiative dedicated to rescuing edible food from local supermarkets, cafes, and restaurants. Our mission is to provide healthy, nutritious meals and food parcels to community members across the Far North Coast of NSW, ensuring that no good food goes to waste.
Food Recovery
Food recovery is a program delivered in collaboration with the Consortium of Neighbourhood Centres (CONC).
About Food Recovery
The Food Recovery program enhances the availability of food assistance for individuals and families throughout the Far North Coast of NSW. This initiative, brought to you by the Consortium of Neighbourhood Centres – Far North Coast, aims to create a sustainable and environmentally friendly solution to food waste.
Thanks to the Environmental Trust funding as part of the NSW EPA’s Waste Less, Recycle More initiative, we have acquired two refrigerated vans. These vans enable us to safely collect and redistribute food donations to where they are needed most. Our program supports community meals, community kitchens, food banks, and community pantries throughout the region. Rescued food is provided free of charge to local community members in need through food parcels, community meals, or frozen meals. Additionally, the vans can transport excess food to other locations as required.
Sustainable Food Collection
Food Recovery is committed to sustainability. By diverting food from landfills, we help reduce the large proportion of food waste generated by homes and businesses in NSW.
Our volunteers collect and redistribute food throughout the Northern Rivers, ensuring that every bit of edible food reaches those who need it most.
Volunteer with Us
Our program thrives on the dedication of volunteers. If you are passionate about making a difference, consider joining our team. Volunteers assist with:
